I remind myself that the purpose of my column is about people and their relationship with Jesus Christ. With the impact the COVID-19 has had on our world, we now spend less time outside the home. It follows we have more time for reflection, Bible study, and prayer. We can meditate on how we can live in “peace within” no matter what challenges we face. The world is calling believers to be genuine as we “practice what we preach.”

The dawn of a new year is a great time to take stock of the year that just passed and set goals for the next 12 months. Resolutions focused on improving personal health are especially popular, and for good reason. Improving one’s overall health can have positive implications for years to come.

My day was brightened considerably with the recent sighting of an American goldfinch at my sunflower seed feeder.

Peanut butter is used in a multitude of recipes, from savory dishes to desserts. Peanuts are a strong source of protein, fiber and heart-healthy fats, and they’re also rich in potassium and B vitamins. Even though they can be high in calories, peanuts are nutrient-dense, so they can make great additions to most diets.

For Laura Davis, feeding veterans is always important, especially in these trying times. It is heartbreaking to think that someone who has served their country would be in need of assistance, but it happens.

Jesse Gainer and Nancy Valdez-Gainer were delighted to move in July 2019 to a San Marcos house on Franklin Street near the Texas State campus, especially since the property included a sustainable landscape with many native plants. But then spring 2020 brought a huge surprise when the front lawn became a solid field of bluebonnets. The new owners have added a few of their own touches to the yard, but give full credit to former owners Kris Spilker and Sean McMannnis, for the crowning glory of a space full of Texas bluebonnets.

The Garden Guy fell in love with calendulas a long time ago, and then suddenly they became like the four-leaf clover at the garden center. Hopefully Lady Godiva will change all of that. If you have never grown this Aster family member, you are in for a treat.
