In 2024 let us protect what is uniquely San Marcos: Our beautiful crystal river, What’s left of our authentic downtown, Our historic districts, and Our established neighborhoods. In new areas of town we can experiment with new ideas, such as having a triplex on a lot next to a single family home.

Been at your job too long? Maybe not

Without much fanfare (okay, I did write and voice a radio commercial noting the milestone), I recently marked 25 years of my “day job” working for a farmers cooperative.

If migrants bused from Texas can’t make it in New York, can they make it anywhere?

Gov. Greg Abbott is a genius. His devious plot to school the smug liberals to the north about the migrant crisis on our Southern border is working beautifully.

While the San Marcos City Staff and Council are headed in the right direction with their “Dream Session” initiative, we need a resource to help our neighbors feel empowered to organize and know how to navigate concerns within our local government. As a former City Council Member, I know all too well what people think about how things are run and our recent 2022 San Marcos “National Community Survey” proved that there’s a lot of work to be done to build trust between our local government and its community members. For that reason I’m starting the San Marcos Civics Club.

School Chaplains gain statewide, nationwide momentum
School Chaplains gain statewide, nationwide momentum

Texas legislators passed the “School Chaplaincy Act” which was signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott on June 18th, 2023. Since then, over a dozen other states are poised to follow. Florida introduced a similar bill on December 22. School chaplaincy has overwhelming parent support and endorsements from grassroots organizations such as Ben Carson’s Institute and Moms for America. Legislation is teed up in states from Louisiana to Pennsylvania.

Texas kicks kids off Medicaid for paperwork problems. Other states have a fix.

Since April, states across the country have been kicking people off Medicaid, and no state has kicked off more people than Texas. We’re at 1.7 million. And counting.

My New Year’s Anti-Resolutions
My New Year’s Anti-Resolutions

A few days ago, during one of those rare occasions when our whole family was together and my three semi-grown daughters weren’t nursing an iPhone while wearing universe-canceling headphones, my wife posed probably the most oftasked question this time of year: “Does anyone have any New Year’s resolutions?”
