The San Marcos Art League recently announced it has been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to receive a Challenge America award of $10,000. This grant will support a city-wide exhibition of the art of Roberto Rios. This grant is one of 262 Challenge America awards totaling $2.62 million that were announced by the NEA as part of its first round of fiscal year 2023 grants.

Q.MLK Day is this weekend and I want to learn more about Martin Luther King, Jr. as a man - not just the history of the holiday. What can you tell me about him and where can I read more information about him? A. The library has hundreds of books and DVDs about MLK Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist minister and a civil- rights activist who had a seismic impact on race relations in the United States, beginning in the mid-1950s and continuing until today.

A friend recently sent me a photo of a hawk which had perched in a tree in her yard. It was a handsome specimen, with light rufous shoulders, or upper-wing coverts, to be precise. It also had reddish barring on the chest and belly.
