February is the month when one of North America’s favorite birds begins to return after spending the winter in South America.

The San Marcos Art League is set to host its annual social on Feb. 19 at The Rock House in San Marcos, Texas from 1 - 5 p.m. The Art League encourages active members, non-members and artists of all kinds to attend and network with those in the local art community. This year’s musical guest will be local artist Kenny Normal, and food and refreshments will be provided throughout the event.

Right in time for Valentine’s Day, the Broke Thespian’s Theatre Company presents the “slightly- twisted, completely hilarious” romantic comedy, “Love/Sick” by John Cariani. Set for Feb. 10, 11, 12, 17 and 19 at the Price Center, “Love/Sick” is a collection of nine short plays that explores the pain and joy that comes with being in love. “This is a great date night out,” said Mitchell Odin, co-founder and president of BTTC. ‘Love/Sick’ presents to the audience abstract but familiar stages of our romantic relationships. You will find yourself laughing at the absurdity and then suddenly clutching your partner in suspense. At another moment you will be joining in with the merriment on stage, laughing and smiling along, and then just as suddenly tearing up at how truthful those tougher moments in our relationships are.”

DEAR ABBY: I had pretty much an ideal childhood. My parents have never had issues that I ever saw. We went to church every Sunday, gathered with family often, etc. I’m now grown, and my parents are in their mid-80s.

Spring Lake Garden Club’s first meeting of the new year featured an overview of how plants and insects depend on each other, especially in winter.

The VFW Auxiliary invites high school students in Grades 9 - 12 to participate in the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest. The contest, which began in 1979 to recognize upand- coming artists and encourage patriotism in youth, offers the firstplace winner from each state a chance to compete for national awards totaling $34,000.

I can’t remember a better winter around my place when it comes to seeing birds.
