The Journey Continues:

My journey this week took me to Redwood Baptist Church; the Sunday message on Thanksgiving was preached by the Associate Pastor, Michael Johnson. Johnson is a graduate of Texas A&M Kingsville, and retired from The Community Action, Inc, of Hays, Caldwell and Blanco Counties. He has experience in benevolence with a diverse population through his volunteer work for Hays County Salvation Army. His intense study of the Scriptures has blessed his ministry.

Passages Moving Forward in 2021 focus of newest call for art at the Price Center

A new call for art focusing on the theme of passages with a focus on moving forward in the new year is now underway for a new gallery show coming to the Price Center. The Center’s Arts Committee invites all area artists to consider submitting up two works on Mon., Nov. 30 or Tues., Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Works in this all ages, all media show must be family-friendly and ready to hang. (3-D works also encouraged.) A $10 application fee is due at time of submission and 20% of any artwork sales goes to assist with operating the non-profit community center.

In these crazy days and months, it’s reassuring to know that at least some things are, well, ‘sort of’ the same: the ever-popular Naturescapes Photography Contest and Exhibition is hanging at the The Walkers’ Gallery at the San Marcos Activity Center now that the building has reopened. That said, it will only be up for two more weeks. Visitors have until Dec. 4 to see it in person. Prints will also be available for purchase in time for gift-giving season.

TPA curates Texas Mixtape concert series with composer Graham Reynolds

Graham Reynolds has built a career on improvising interesting connections with sound. With his unique composition style, he has written the musical scores for dozens of wellknown films, TV shows and plays, including Richard Linklater’s A Scanner Darkly and Before Midnight, starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. Reynolds also leads the experimental jazz based band, the Golden Arm Trio, and participates in a number of other collaborative composerled musical ventures in the area to cultivate and support Austin’s own unique sound.
