Texas is operating absentee voting drop-off sites on the theory that McDonald’s would sell just as many burgers and fries if it had only one store in Harris County.

The following article is part two of a five-week series focusing on raising awareness about domestic violence. October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and we hope to educate our community on this very important issue. 1 in 3 women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. Locally, the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center has been serving victims of domestic and dating violence, sexual assault and child abuse since 1978. Last year, HCWC served 2,307 victims of abuse (face-toface) primarily from Hays and Caldwell Counties. 1,047 of those were victims of domestic violence.

Recently, there have been unfair attacks on members of the San Marcos City Council who supported the Cite and Release ordinance adopted in April 2020. Members of the Hill Country Freethinkers Association named below offer this column to answer those attacks.

Gov. Greg Abbott’s most exasperating allies sure chose an awkward time to act up.

My son Gideon has now finished both his ACT and SAT college entrance exams (scoring at an impressive percentile somewhere between “It’s …it’s…go ask my wife” and “Never you MIND what his father’s score was”), but I wonder if the tests will still be relevant when HIS hypothetical kids reach college age.

If you want to know what’s happening with business reopenings during the pandemic in Texas, watch your local hospital.

September marks Suicide Prevention Month. Just as we are protecting our physical health right now, we must also take care of our mental health as we navigate this pandemic.
