Many types of infrastructure, including electricity and telephones, started out as luxuries but quickly became essential as deployment spread. Just a few years ago, broadband internet access was viewed as a convenience. Mediocre speeds were sufficient for most tasks, and anything beyond that only came in handy to allow movies to stream with fewer glitches. That time, however, has long passed.

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that a juvenile was arrested in connection to a generic threat on Oct. 16, that referenced school violence was imminent and which was sent out via social media applications.

The San Marcos Police Department stated that it is continuing to investigate an incident on Oct. 12 where a 4-year-old student at San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District’s Bonham PreKindergarten found a loaded firearm in the personal backpack of an instructional assistant in the classroom.

All Hallows Nears

The San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District board of trustees decided against hiring chaplains to perform the duties of a school counselor at the regularly scheduled meeting Monday. Senate Bill 763 was recently passed by the Texas Legislature, which according to the Texas Legislature online website, states that a school district may employ a chaplain instead of a school counselor to perform the duties required of a school counselor under this title.

A criminal justice doctoral student has received a Graduate Research Fellowship from the National Institute of Justice for her dissertation project, “The Mortal Tragedy: Analyzing Body Disposal Patterns in Homicide Cases.”

More than a year after the U.S. Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, Texas continues to be the largest state in the nation to ban nearly all abortions. But some questions and changes to abortion and birth control access have arisen since then.
