County Brown Santa program is underway

The Hays County Brown Santa program has started its annual drive for money, food, and toys to assist families in need in Hays County. The program consists of volunteers from the Hays County Sheriff’s Office and members of the community. Brown Santa seeks donations from citizens and local businesses for toys, canned goods, and money. Last year over 650 families were given assistance in Hays County. Those interested in assisting in the Brown Santa program or making a cash donation may contact Lieutenant Dennis Gutierrez at 512393-7877.

According to my extensive research (approximately five minutes on Google when I should have been folding underwear), the Chinese zodiac system assigns an animal symbol to each year. It is believed that people born in a given year have the personality of that year’s animal. For example, based on the placemats at my favorite Chinese buffet, I was born in the Year of the Dog, which means I am loyal, honest and difficult to housebreak.

San Marcos’ Comprehensive Plan functions as the City’s road map, guide, and vision for the way San Marcos will develop and gives guidance to its leaders. To develop the Comp Plan, San Marcos hired a consulting firm and appointed several members of the community to advise in its development. After the original Comp Plan development process, citizens and a subcommittee made revisions to the Comp Plan and that document is entitled the “Comprehensive Plan ++”. The Comp Plan ++ should be voted in by city council.

Prior to the COVID outbreak, the Gary Job Corps Center would test students upon arrival at the center with the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). Now, after a three-year halt, the testing will be available again for all new students.
