Where grass won’t grow, gravel can be an attractive ground cover, as seen in the wide buffer zone between street and lawn at the home of Bob and Sharon Fiore on Philo Street in San Marcos, Spring Lake Garden Club’s Yard of the Month for March. Grass enjoys the shade of large oaks in front of the Fiore house, while the gravel area lining the street hosts succulents that flourish in full sun.

My journey in the past took me to the discovery of the book, Leadership: Lessons of Jesus, by Bob Brines and Ray Pritchard, located in the small book section at the Post Exchange, USMA, West Point. It spoke to my heart and I want to share it with you. As a leader, Jesus never wrote a book, never taught a seminar, never owned a house, never led an army…but his leadership gives these lessons:

National VFW Auxiliary President Jean Hamil recently visited San Antonio, where the Department of Texas President of the VFW Auxiliary, Karen Kaylor, gave Hamil a tour of the city.

Everyone amateur baker needs a go-to pie recipe in his or her repertoire. While apple may get much of the fanfare, blueberries pack that perfect punch of sweet but tart flavor that just bursts in the mouth with every bite.

It may be hard to believe, what with the recent cold temperatures, but I do believe spring may be on the way. I’m keeping an eye out for a totally new cast of birds and even hoping for a returning hummingbird.

Shasta daisy lovers will rejoice as the Amazing Daisy collection is more than doubling with the addition of three new varieties for 2022. The Garden Guy can hardly wait to get his hands on Amazing Daisy Marshmallow.
