The following article is the final article of a four-week series focusing on raising awareness about dating violence. February is Dating Violence Awareness month and we hope to educate our community on this very important issue. 1 in 3 young people will experience dating violence in their lifetime. Locally, the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center has been serving victims of domestic and dating violence, sexual assault and child abuse since 1978. Last year, HCWC served 2,023 victims of abuse (face-to-face) primarily from Hays and Caldwell Counties.

While you’re watching the taxpayer-funded spanking line on last week’s freeze and blackouts, don’t lose sight of the real losses behind the outrage.

Texas got close to the brink this week, as bad weather, inadequate preparation and weak leadership left millions without electricity and water, endangered in a prosperous state that ought to know better.

To the Editor,

Yes, a lot of water has flowed under the bridge since February 20, 1971 — but it’s still hard to believe that Granny Tyree (my father’s mother) has been gone for 50 years.

Philanthropy is an interesting word.
