In the last 65 years I have very rarely missed the opening day of the Texas dove season on Sept. 1. It’s a marquee date on my calendar. But this year I had an opportunity to hunt the opening week of the Canadian waterfowl season in Saskatchewan, Canada.

I enjoy seeing posts on social media of local runners at races they have run. It made me think about my running days and the races I entered over the years. The posts came from different races in towns and cities throughout the United States. I started to wonder how far a runner would travel to enter a race. It is an easy entry if the race is in San Marcos. This past Saturday the Blue Santa’s 5 Miler and 5K race was held out at the soccer fields. Next Saturday, September 30th, the Kiwanis Pumpkin Dash 5K will be held out at Country Estates. This is a popular race with not a large entry number so the prospect of winning an award is good.

Bobcats look for their best start since 2005 against Southern Miss

Texas State hit the gridiron this week following the largest comeback in FBS history and the Bobcats best start since 2013.

THURSDAY

In one of the most thrilling games of the season, San Marcos Academy defeated Texas School for the Deaf, 40-38, with the Bears winning on a buzzer-beating four-yard touchdown pass to beat the Rangers.

Texas State was unable to come away with a home victory, as the Bobcats tied with the Troy Trojans, 1-1.

Texas State improved their record to 9-4 overall as the Bobcats defeated the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-13, 25-16) to sweep the double header.

The largest comeback in FBS history, best start in nearly a decade and trident mishaps.

San Marcos couldn’t get on track in the second half Friday.

Texas State began their quest for a Sun Belt Conference title against Louisiana Monroe, as the Bobcats defeated the Warhawks 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-23, 25-11).
