This was a culmination of a historic season for the San Marcos Rattlers Basketball team who set many bench marks during the 2022-2023. Combining with the fact the Rattlers won their first District Championship in over 20 years and breaking the modern day record for most wins in the single season, this makes it our number one story for 2023.
THURSDAY
Before the historic First Responder Bowl, this was the game that sent Texas State into the history books. Taking on Georgia Southern, the Bobcats defeated the Eagles 45-24 to cross the sixwin mark for the first time since 2014 to become bowl eligible. The win was the first time Texas State had defeated Georgia Southern since the 2005 win when the Bobcats knocked off the Eagles in the first round of the FCS Playoffs. As the fans stormed the field, the party was moved from Bobcat Stadium to Sewell Park where the historic win was celebrated by jumping into the San Marcos River. Texas State President Kelly Damhousse made a promise that the first time the Bobcats reached six wins he would jump in to the river, which he kept as he was followed by the Director Athletics Don Coryell, Head Coach G.J. Kinne and the majority of the Bobcat Football Team.
Nine years ago, Texas State was snubbed from appearing in their first bowl game in program history.
Not since Allex Austin in 2012 had a Rattler Track athlete qualified for the UIL state Track Meet and performed at Mike Myers Stadium.

Next up is the New Year’s Celebration. It is the start of a New Year and for many that follow the tradition of making New Year Resolutions it is a chance to start trying to correct some bad habits and start over again.
