Job Corps helps make Sights & Sounds a very Gary Christmas

Fireflies light up the Hill Country during summer nights and contribute to an enchanted atmosphere, but a Texas Certified Master Naturalist said they are on the decline. Firefly Conservation and Research Founder Ben Pfeiffer, a group that supports firefly research, conservation and public knowledge, was a guest on Texas State University’s Big Ideas podcast to discuss the flying insect and threats to their existence.

The San Marcos Fire Department was recognized by the Texas Fire Chiefs’ Association and received the Best Practices designation. This is the first time a city of San Marcos public safety department has earned a third-party accreditation.

LBJ Museum hosts area students for holiday festivities

The Mermaid Society of San Marcos–a group that uses the magic of costume to teach local children about endangered species in the rivers and springs and how to be good stewards of the city’s natural resources–recently entered into a strategic partnership with Texas State University’s McCoy College of Business in which a student led fundraising campaign produced $1,500 in order to support the group’s Eco-guardianship programming.

Following the District 4 City Council Runoff Election held on Saturday, Dec. 9, unofficial results indicate Dr. Lauralee Harris was elected to serve in District 4, receiving 65.45% of the vote, according to a press release.
