After a week of being permitted to offer limited dine-in services, some San Marcos food establishments are beginning to see profits once again.

Friday marked the first day hair salons and barbershops could reopen in Texas after being shut down amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We know businesses and workers here are hurting,” said Lance Winter, San Marcos Daily Record publisher. “We’re hurting, too. But if we can pull together as a community, we can weather this. Here at the Daily Record, we want to do everything we can to help everyone get through the pandemic and get back to work. With these matching grants, we can help local businesses tell their story as they rebound and rebuild.”

Just south of San Marcos, in the rural prairie adjacent to the historic Camino Real pathway, sits a theatre frozen in time: Stars & Stripes Drive In, boasting the largest screens in the entire Lone Star State.

The San Marcos Lions Club presented the San Marcos Police Department with a check for $10,000 on Monday. Lion President Mike Jones presented Interim Police Chief Bob Klett with a check to support the SMPD in the wake of officer Paul Beller's injury and the April 18 shooting that claimed the life of officer Justin Putnam and wounded officers Franco Stewart and Justin Mueller.
