MotherShip Studios presents the second annual San Marcos Studio Tour. The tour will include artists' studios within the San Marcos and Martindale city limits and will run April 5 - 7, the weekend preceding the big 2024 Eclipse. It will begin with a kick-off event at MotherShip Studios on April 5 at 7 p.m. where guests can mingle with local artists and explore a group exhibition of all the participating artists which will run for the duration of the tour.

The city of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the 23 rd Annual Golden Sweetheart’s Ball on Friday, February 9, 2024, from 6-10 p.m. at the San Marcos Activity Center, located at 501 E. Hopkins. This Valentine celebration is geared toward couples and singles, ages 50 and above, in San Marcos and surrounding communities.

The San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce is co-hosting its fifth InterCity Leadership conference, along with presenting sponsor Texas State University and co-sponsors Greater San Marcos Partnership and Chuck Nash Auto Group.

Both pets are available for adoption at the San Marcos Regional Shelter. All ready-to-go pets are normally $22 and include spay/neuter, vet exam, vaccinations, and a microchip. Military deployments are not limited to warzones. Soldiers can be sent all over the world for various reasons. No matter the mission or location of deployment, they appreciate the support of the community. It is a difficult job that many are unable or unwilling to do but are benefited by in every way. The 4-133rd Field Artillery Regiment (High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems) is located in San Marcos.

The late Emmett and Miriam McCoy, longtime benefactors of Texas State University for whom the McCoy College of Business is named, have been posthumously honored with the 2024 Texas Higher Education Distinguished Service Award for their extraordinary contributions and service to higher education in the state.

The city of San Marcos Community Forestry Program is now accepting applications for the Tree Removal Assistance Program. Funded through the U.S. Department of Treasury’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), the city was awarded $135,000 to aid low-income residential homeowners in removing unsafe, dying or dead trees over their homes with no out-of-pocket cost to the homeowner.

The new play performed by the Texas State University Department of Theatre and Dance, The Three Sisters, is packed with action and emotion, including two tumultuous affairs, a fire that devastates the nearby town, and a duel that ends in the death of a major character.
