KZSM hosts San Marcos Music Awards

Laissez les bon temps rouler! On Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 5-7pm in the iconic Hays County Court House on the square, the Heritage Association of San Marcos will proudly host the 1st Mardi Gras Happy Hour and Silent Auction to celebrate our town and the Mistick Krewe of Okeanos parade. Our diverse culture and small town family spirit brings San Marcos together like no other hill country riverside city.

Following the Mistick Krewe of Okeanos neighborhood parade, the festivities extend into Downtown San Marcos. The Downtown Association of San Marcos (DASM) invites everyone to join in the Mardi Gras Downtown celebration during its inaugural 2024 activation. Embrace the spirit of Mardi Gras as local businesses roll out themed specials, delectable food and entertaining performances. Various Downtown Association members of San Marcos will participate in a storefront decorating contest, dressing up their facades into energized, fun and artistic displays that extend a warm welcome.

DOUBLOON PICK-UP LOCATIONS

On Thursday, January 25, 50 volunteers gathered throughout the day at the First Presbyterian Church in San Marcos to go out in three-hour shifts to locate and count the homeless population in Hays County. The count was conducted by the Homeless Coalition of Hays County. The organizers of the official Point In Time Count were Patsy Ann Reed, PIT Count Planning Team Coordinator, and Nancy Heintz, PIT Lead Co-Coordinator 'The Teams were made up of a driver, a spotter who helped navigate their assigned area, and one or two surveyors,' Heintz said. 'The surveyors used a Counting Us mobile app on their phone to complete the survey with the people they encountered who were willing to participate in the survey.'

In response to a lawsuit brought by Rethink35 and other opponents of the I-35 Capital Express Central project, TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams signaled the agency plans to vigorously defend the much-needed project.

And in the week leading up to Feb. 2, coined Groundhog Job Shadow Day, job corps nationwide will be sending students to shadow employees working the jobs that they will one day do themselves.
