The Downtown Association of San Marcos (DASM) invites everyone to join in the Mardi Gras Downtown celebration during its inaugural 2024 activation. Embrace the spirit of Mardi Gras as local businesses roll out themed specials, delectable food and entertaining performances. Various Downtown Association members of San Marcos will participate in a storefront decorating contest, dressing up their facades into energized, fun and artistic displays that extend a warm welcome.

Homeless count conducted, data to be released in April

On Thursday, January 25, 50 volunteers gathered throughout the day at the First Presbyterian Church in San Marcos to go out in three-hour shifts to locate and count the homeless population in Hays County. The count was conducted by the Homeless Coalition of Hays County. The organizers of the official Point In Time Count were Patsy Ann Reed, PIT Count Planning Team Coordinator, and Nancy Heintz, PIT Lead Co-Coordinator 'The Teams were made up of a driver, a spotter who helped navigate their assigned area, and one or two surveyors,' Heintz said. 'The surveyors used a Counting Us mobile app on their phone to complete the survey with the people they encountered who were willing to participate in the survey.'

A San Marcos Police Department car chase following two juvenile suspects ended in a wreck, a foot pursuit and ultimately the death of the passenger who fell 70 ft. into an open quarry pit in Comal County early in the morning on Tuesday, Jan. 30, according to city officials.
