City names director for its planning, development

The City of San Marcos has selected Amanda Hernandez to serve as the director of Planning & Development Services. Hernandez was chosen following a nationwide search. Her appointment became effective March 20.

As bluebonnets and other wildflowers carpet the Hill Country and beyond, the first week following Spring Break is resplendent with numerous art events. Seasonally poetic, March is designated as National Youth Art Month — time to celebrate ‘budding’ artists. The public is invited to visit the San Marcos Activity Center where this year’s YAM exhibit is on display in the Walkers’ Gallery. All 10 of the SMCISD schools have artwork on display, as well as the Crossroads Transitional Program. Also included are works from the Wonderland School, whose art teacher is Debangana Banerjee.

County tests voting machines in preparation for May election

In order to provide for a fair election this May 6 and beyond, staff, volunteers and observers met Tuesday in a mock mini-election with 33 sample ballots to test the county’s voting machines. The test is designed to ascertain that each machine “will accurately count the votes cast for all offices and on all measures,” according to county officials.
