Sweet treats are on display come Halloween. People hosting Halloween parties or bringing items over to others’ homes for the holiday may need to scare up some new ideas for dessert.

In the next few days, we at KZSM will bring True Community Radio to your FM dial at 104.1 FM. As we complete this process, we will look back on the history of community radio in San Marcos in this column and the next one.

Area families and children will be able to have a truly old-fashioned Halloween on Tuesday at the San Marcos Police Department is sponsoring a Public Safety Trunk or Treat at the headquarters located at 2300 S. I-35 Frontage Road.

At the next meeting on Nov. 1 of the Rotary Club of San Marcos, the guest speaker will be Dr. Daniel Wescott, professor of Anthropology and director of the Forensic Anthropology Center at Texas State University.

The Hays County Commissioners Court honored one of the community’s favorite son’s by proclaiming Oct. 24 as Michael Hernandez Day of Service.

A local band utilizes cardboard masks to create quirky characters that have become a staple of their performances–so much so that the crowd now dons the masks as well–dancing freely with the anonymity that a face-covering affords.

New sidewalks, bikeways and other types of infrastructure will help improve safety and enhance quality of life in many Texas communities including San Marcos, Wimberley and Dripping Springs, following the announcement that the Texas Transportation Commission has approved more than $345 million for projects across the state.

The Heritage Association of San Marcos will celebrate Texas Arbor Day On Friday, Nov. 3 by planting a tree in Veramendi Plaza Park to honor the legacy of Ruben E. Garza, recipient of the 2023 Heritage Arbor Day Award.
