Bobcats earn pair of weekly awards, move up in AVCA poll

A series sweep of Little Rock over the weekend resulted in two Bobcats winning Sun Belt weekly awards and Texas State jumping two spots in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-15 Coaches Poll.

Senior middle blocker Tyeranee Scott was tabbed the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after averaging 1.4 blocks per set. She rejected a season-high nine shots against the Trojans in the second match of the series on Friday where she also posted a career-high 17 kills. Scott is the first Defensive Player of the Week for the maroon and gold this season.

Junior Emily DeWalt was also named Setter of the Week on Tuesday after averaging 14.8 assists per set. DeWalt earned a career-high 64 assists in the second match against Little Rock. Her 36th dime of the match pushed her to fifth-most in program history, surpassing former Texas State setter Erin Hoppe (2015-17). DeWalt is now a 13-time Setter of the Week winner, with four of the laurels coming this season.

The maroon and gold received 128 points in Wednesday’s AVCA poll, moving up from No. 15 to No.13 and passing No. 14 Syracuse (95 points) and Duke (28 points). Coastal Carolina was the only other Sun Belt school that received votes in the poll with 27 points.

The Bobcats (14-1, 9-0 Sun Belt) are now on an 11-match winning streak and will head to UT Arlington (8-1, 8-1) for a two-match series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. and ending Saturday at 1 p.m.
