The San Marcos Police Department has arrested two men in connection with the murder of Aaron Peterman earlier this week.

Martin Garcia Jr., 23, of Austin and James Lee Zapata Jr., 19, of Kyle were arrested on Friday evening in Austin. This arrest was made with critical assistance from the Austin Police Department Violent Crimes Task Force and the Texas Rangers.

Investigators have been pursuing all leads in this case since the crime was reported on Wednesday morning, and with the help of observant citizens, were able to identify Zapata and Garcia as suspects late Friday morning. 

Peterman had been found in the Park North Condos in the 1600 block of Aquarena Springs at 7:24 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 13 with a single gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Scott Cary and transported to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.

Detectives believe that a drug-related robbery was central to this crime, and the investigation will be ongoing for multiple weeks.

Both Garcia and Zapata Jr. have been charged with capital murder. Both are being held in Hays County Jail and will appear before the judge to have bond set sometime today.
