The city and the nonprofit TreeFolks are working with 150 volunteers to help plant native trees in Blanco Riverwalk on Feb.16 from 10 a.m. -1 p.m. The tree planting is part of an ongoing riparian restoration project in the area, which was damaged during the 2015 floods.
TreeFolks is providing 1,200-1,500 seedlings to the restoration effort and coordinating volunteers to help plant the trees on city property.
“It’s stunning to observe the transformative power of water and the rapid changes the land undergoes in the healing process,” said San Marcos Urban Forester Kelly Eby. “These volunteer efforts and the generous supply of so many trees, go a long way toward restoring the riparian habitat in our city.”
