Column: KZSM welcomes Bartlett

Firstly, I have to thank both our station family as well as the hill country community for welcoming me to the team. I've been working with some amazing people at the station and am looking forward to working with San Marcos Daily Record in this capacity.

Firstly, I have to thank both our station family as well as the hill country community for welcoming me to the team. I've been working with some amazing people at the station and am looking forward to working with San Marcos Daily Record in this capacity.

I would like to use this first column to introduce myself and let readers know who I am and what I hope to bring to listeners. I am a native of San Marcos and a graduate of Texas State University, which of course was previously Southwest Texas State University when I graduated. I got my degree in Mass Communications with a minor in Music. After graduating, I joined the military and served seven years as a journalist and public affairs specialist. Upon my discharge from the military, I did 12 years in law enforcement and corrections as a probation and parole officer for both the states of Texas and Tennessee.

These days, I spend my time advocating for veterans, playing a local happy hour acoustic performance and enjoying family. I am currently co-hosting the Veterans Hour on KZSM on Mondays at 3 p.m. and hope to continue providing listeners with relevant information pertaining to veterans and military families in the hill country area.

This spring I’m looking forward to all of the station and community events. I try to attend the downtown Farmer's Market weekly so I can get out and about and see who is and what is new in our river city. Having returned to my hometown and my alma mater, I am always searching for youthful interactions and dialogues and hope to bring those conversations to the station.

With the start of a new year, the station is returning with most of its quality shows as well as a few new ones. With this submission, I encourage anyone in the community who has thoughts, ideas or questions, please forward them to me at DBartlett6018@ yahoo.com. I look forward to feedback.
