Hays County municipalities see sales tax allocation increases

Most municipalities in Hays County have seen growth in sales tax allocations in 2019, according to the State Comptroller’s office. 

All of the county’s municipalities had increases with the exception of Mountain City. 

San Marcos, which has a 1.5% sales tax rate, has seen a 7.44% increase in sales tax allocations from $35,158,973.19 this time in 2018 to $37,775,468.70 this year. San Marcos’ December allocation was 10.34% higher than last December's at $2,854,070.34

Niederwald, which has a 1 percent sales tax rate, saw the largest increase this year from $39,608.06 to $51,384.87 — a 29.73% jump. Niederwald’s December allocation increased 42.32% from last December’s at $4,297.48.

The City of Hays, which has a 1% sales tax rate, saw the second largest increase in sales tax allocations with a 23.05% gain — $15,902.36 from this time in 2018 to $19,567.97 now. Hays’ December allocation was up 14.13% at $1,167.47.

Dripping Springs, which has a 1.25% sales tax, received an increase in its sales tax allocation by 17.46% from this time in 2018. The city had a sales tax allocation of $2,387,553.70 from this time last year to $2,804,423.75 in 2019. Dripping Springs’ December allocation jumped up 7.89% from 2018’s December allocation at $268,784.59.

Woodcreek, which has a 1% sales tax rate, has seen a 16.53% increase so far this year. The city tallied a $52,629.88 in 2018 to $61,331.02 to Dec. 11 this year. Woodcreeks’ monthly sales tax allocation increased by 39.22% from last December at $5,604.76.

Buda’s sales tax allocation is up 11.75% from $8,090,180.57 in 2018 to $8,892,338.85 this year. Buda’s monthly allocation increased from 33.89% from last year at $717,418.87.

Uhland, which has a 1.5% sales tax rate, has seen a 9.05% sales tax allocation increase from $211,231.41 last year to $230,362.34. Uhland’s December allocation increased from 13.65% from last year to $18,546.35.

Kyle, which has a 1.5% sales tax rate, has seen a 9.91% increase in sales tax allocations from $8,090,180.57 from this time last year to $8,892,338.85. Kyle’s December allocation went up by 0.86% to $743,863.97.

Wimberley, which has a 1% sales tax rate, saw the lowest increase at 3.38% from $929,221.17 last year to $960,638.45 this year. Wimberley saw a decrease in its monthly allocation from $92,074.18 last year to $82,061.58 this December. 

Mountain City, which has a 1% sales tax rate was the lone county municipality to see a sales tax allocation decrease from last year at $18,566.61 in 2018 to $17,105.52 in 2019. Mountain City’s December allocation decreased by 14.55% from $1,483.74 last year to $1,267.77 this year.
