San Marcos Police searching for suspect in shooting on the square

San Marcos Police are searching for a suspect in connection with an overnight shooting that occurred on the square.

Officers responded to reports of gunshots near Harper’s — 139 E. Hopkins St. — at approximately 1:10 a.m., SMPD said.

Officials say the first officer arrived on scene and found two victims who received gunshot wounds while standing outside Harper’s. One victim was shot in the arm and had graze wounds on their torso. The second victim had a gunshot wound to their arm. Police applied tourniquets to their wounds and transported both victims to Seton Hays in Kyle. Officials say both victims have been treated and released from the hospital.

Witnesses reported five to seven gunshots fired outside the bar by a Hispanic male in a parked vehicle in the 100 block of North LBJ Drive, police said. Officials say the suspect fled the scene in a silver SUV. The supsect traveled eastbound on Hopkins Street.

Harper’s was closed when the shooting occurred for a staff Christmas party. The shooting broke one of the bar’s windows and left minor interior damage.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to contact Detective Dave Campell by email at [email protected] or by phone 512-753-2312.

This is a developing story and will be updated as details emerge.
