Kyle police investigating dog incident

Kyle Police are investigating a dog-related incident that left one dog dead over the weekend.

According to police, two dogs escaped their yard and entered another yard by breaking through the fence. The two dogs encountered a third dog from the other house and a fight took place between the canines on Saturday in the Steeplechase neighborhood in Kyle.

“Animal Control was called to the scene,” Kyle Police Chief Jeff Barnett said.

The third dog was injured and killed in the fight, police said. Although one dog was killed, the two dogs are not subject to impound because no persons were injured during the incident.

The owner of the two dogs was cited for them being loose and unrestrained, which is called Dog at Large under the law, officials said.

One of the dogs that escaped and was involved in this incident was recently under quarantine for a previous unintentional bite of a person. Animal control followed the law and quarantined the canine. That situation did not warrant the dog being deemed dangerous since the injury was minor and the individual was trying to corral the dogs back into their own yard at the time of the bite.

Kyle Animal Control will complete its investigation and determine whether the animals in question will now be deemed dangerous. If that happens, the owner would be subject to several stringent restrictions regarding keeping the animals secured on the property.

Barnett recommended that all pet owners do their part to keep their animals within their property and to repair and reinforce any fencing that could lead to pets getting out or into another yard.
