Beating the Summer heat

Beating the Summer heat

The dry heat of summer has arrived.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory Thursday as highs reached over 100 degrees.

Heat advisories will likely be issued for the next five days, according to the NWS.

“Well above normal temperature will continue for the next several days,” the National Weather Service said in its five-day forecast. “Afternoon heat index values are expected to reach 105 to 110 degrees in most areas, with up to 113 in some isolated areas. Heat Advisories will likely be needed each day for portions of the area. Regardless of advisories, residents are encouraged to take appropriate precautions to prevent heat related illnesses.”

With the heat index expected to reach over 100 degrees, the NWS recommends the following precautionary steps: “Residents are encouraged to take appropriate precautions to prevent heat related illnesses. Plan strenuous outdoor activities during the early morning or late evening. Drink plenty of water, wear light weight, loose fitting and light-colored clothing, and take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.”
