Sessom Drive mural promotes environmental stewardship, wildlife

Sessom Drive mural promotes environmental stewardship, wildlife

A colorful creation that celebrates Edwards Aquifer and promotes its stewardship can now be found on Sessom Drive.

The mural, which features wildlife found in the aquifer, was dedicated by the City of San Marcos on Tuesday, July 2. Washington-based muralist Jake Wagoner painted the creation, titled “Life in Color.” The project was initiated by the City of San Marcos Mural Arts Program, which began looking for artists in February.

“During the six years I have been with the City I’ve seen this wall constantly tagged, requiring our staff to spend time and resources to paint over the graffiti,” said Community Enhancement Initiatives Manager Amy Kirwin. “This mural is an amazing piece of art that beautifies our community and frees City resources for work on other issues.”

Mayor Jane Hughson and City Council Member Mark Rockeymoore were both present for the mural’s dedication.
