GriefShare

When: Aug. 19 - Nov. 18, 6 - 8 p.m.

What: GriefShare, a 14 week grief support group to offer help and encouragement after the death of a loved one. A practical Bible-based program open to all, regardless of faith affiliation.

Overeaters Anonymous meetings Overeaters Anonymous meets from 12 to 1 p.m. Tuesdays at the First Lutheran Church, 130 W. Holland. For anyone with an eating disorder. Call Lynn (512740-8562) for more information.

Turtle Tuesdays

When: Every Tuesday, 10 - 11 a.m.

Where: San Marcos Discovery Center, What: Participants can interact with, feed and create enrichmentitems for the turtles who call the Discovery Center home.

Food and supplies are provided, and no registration is required for this program.

Wild Wednesdays

When: Every Wednesday 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 1 - 5 p.m.

San Marcos Discovery Center, 430 Riverside Drive Wild Wednesdays will take place every Wednesday with a different wildlife theme each month. This free, kid-focused program includes education through natural history items, a self-guided activity, thematic color sheet, craft and more. No registration is required for this come-and-go program. FREE!

60+ Game Day

When: Meets every Monday- except City Holidays, 12:30 - 4 p.m.

What: Game materials for Bridge, Mexican Train Dominoes, Hand & Foot, and 42 are provided. New members are welcome. We had a great response from people that want to learn to play Mahjong. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough people to teach them. If you know how to play Mahjong and are interested in helping others learn to play, please join us for Game Day on Mondays. We have also been asked to see if there are people interested in playing Pinochle, Euchre, Backgammon, Canasta, and regular dominoes. Cover Letters Made Easy

Who: Market yourself and gain an edge in today's job market by learning how to write an effective cover letter.

We will discuss the components of a cover letter, review proper formatting & determine what content to include and what to leave out.

Hill Country MHDD Care Navigator When: Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 12 noon Where: San Marcos Public Library Who: The Care Navigation team consists of friendly experts from Hill Country MHDD Centers who are dedicated to connecting individuals to available resources in their community. This assistance is provided by grant funding through SAMHSA to help address social determinants of health. Care navigation is provided through one-on-one meetings on a walk-in basis. We understand that everyone's needs are unique, and we will determine what barriers and needs exist and work together to develop a personalized plan.

Altered Book Art + Zentangle When: Monday, September 16 & 30, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: San Marcos Public Library Who: Create an altered book or work on Zentangles in this combo class! A Zentangle is a miniature abstract work of art created by a collection of patterns. It is typically done on a 3.5' X 3.5 “paper” tile using a pencil and a black pen. The small size allows for a work of art that can be completed in a relatively short period of time. Instructor: Lana Daniel. Alter a book and transform it into your creation—a photo album, recipe book, journal—whatever you imagine!

Utility Assistance Open Sign-Up

When: Two programs: Tuesday, September 17, 2024, 9am-11am Tuesday, September 24, 2024, 5PM - 8:30PM, Who: Hays and Caldwell County residents are welcome to sign up for utility assistance with community action case managers, who will be able to sign you up on the spot. No registration is necessary. If you are deemed eligible, you could have your electric and gas bills possibly paid for a year. Staff members would be on hand to help you apply. Please bring a government-issued photo ID and a US passport or birth certificate for all members in the household) and proof of income for anyone 18 and older, such as paycheck stubs, social security benefit letters, child support, long-term disability, and/or VA benefits.

Mindfulness Meditation

Lost Art: The Story of Missing Masterpieces (Six-week series) When: Wednesdays, Sept. 18, 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.

Where: San Marcos Public Library Who: In this DVD course, learn about lost art— theft, war, fire, and other catastrophes that have destroyed numerous masterworks over centuries!

Fight the Fall

When: Sept. 18, 12 - 1 p.m.

What: Every year more than one in four seniors over the age of 65 fall. These facts are scary, but falls are not an inevitable part of aging! In fact, falling can be preventable! Each class will focus on static and dynamic balance, home safety, balance strategies and education. Instructors will assess each person's level of confidence, and instruct in strengthening and strategies that are specific for balance and general stability. Participants need to wear loose, comfortable clothing with rubber-soled shoes.
