GriefShare

What: GriefShare, a 14 week grief support group to offer help and encouragement after the death of a loved one. A practical Bible-based program open to all, regardless of faith affiliation.

Turtle Tuesdays

When: Every Tuesday, 10 - 11 a.m.

Where: San Marcos Discovery Center, 430 Riverside What: Participants can interact with, feed and create enrichmentitems for the turtles who call the Discovery Center home.

Food and supplies are provided, and no registration is required for this program.

Wild Wednesdays

When: Every Wednesday 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 1 - 5 p.m.

San Marcos Discovery Center, 430 Riverside Drive Wild Wednesdays will take place every Wednesday with a different wildlife theme each month. This free, kid-focused program includes education through natural history items, a self-guided activity, thematic color sheet, craft and more. No registration is required for this come-and-go program. FREE!

60+ Game Day

When: Meets every Monday- except City Holidays, 12:30 - 4 p.m.

What: Game materials for Bridge, Mexican Train Dominoes, Hand & Foot, and 42 are provided. New members are welcome. We had a great response from people that want to learn to play Mahjong. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough people to teach them. If you know how to play Mahjong and are interested in helping others learn to play, please join us for Game Day on Mondays. We have also been asked to see if there are people interested in playing Pinochle, Euchre, Backgammon, Canasta, and regular dominoes. If you have any questions, or would like to play any of these games, call 512-393-8275 or email to [email protected]. Registration for Game Day is no longer required. Make sure you arrive on time to get in on a game!

Cover Letters Made Easy

(Except Aug. 5) Who: Market yourself and gain an edge in today's job market by learning how to write an effective cover letter. We will discuss the components of a cover letter, review proper formatting, and determine what content to include and what to leave out.

Hill Country MHDD Care Navigator When: Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 12 noon Where: San Marcos Public Library Who: The Care Navigation team consists of friendly experts from Hill Country MHDD Centers who are dedicated to connecting individuals to available resources in their community. This assistance is provided by grant funding through SAMHSA to help address social determinants of health. Care navigation is provided through one-on-one meetings on a walk-in basis. We understand that everyone's needs are unique, and we will determine what barriers and needs exist and work together to develop a personalized plan.

E5 Fitness

When: Fridays, Aug. 23 & 30, from 3 to 4 p.m.

Where: San Marcos Public Library Who: Come enjoy a science-based functional fitness class. Every class is divided into 5 different time-based segments—each with a different focus. The segments are enable—endure—engage—exert—and (r)Ecover.

60+ Indoor Cornhole

When: August 20, 1p.m.

What: Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to this sport, join us once a month for 60+ Indoor Cornhole. Cornhole is similar to horseshoes except you use wooden boxes called cornhole platforms and corn bags instead of horseshoes and metal stakes.

Contestants take turns pitching their bags at the platform until a contestant reaches the score of 21 points. A bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point.

Hawaiian Homicide Murder Mystery

When: Aug. 24, 7 p.m.

What: Aloha and welcome to the Make Kaka resort, a luxurious Hawaiian resort where guests can enjoy drinks and dinner in the open air Tiki Bar, private surfing lessons with the resident surfing instructor Keanu and authentic Polynesian music and dancing shows each evening on the stage. The private beach offers a tranquil place for relaxation, which is where The Hula Hut, a small open-air hut selling hula dolls, is located. But when one of the owners of The Hula Hut is found dead, killed with a coconut behind the hut, guests and staff alike suddenly find themselves suspects in a murder mystery investigation!
