San Marcos advanced to the winner’s bracket of the Ragin’ Rattler Tournament after placing second in Pool C.
The Rattlers will play in Pool E on Saturday with a shot at winning the tournament.
In the first game of Pool C, San Marcos took on the Austin LASA Raptors.
The Rattlers battled the Raptors in a tough first set, winning 29-17 before taking the second set 25-21 to take their first win of the day.
San Marcos turned around to play 4A powerhouse, the Celina Bobcats.
The Bobcats took the first set at 25-20 but the Rattlers bounced back to take the second set at 2521. After forcing a third set, San Marcos was unable to seal the win as Celina won the set 25-16.
The Rattlers regrouped to face the New Braunfels Long Creek Dragons in the third game of the day.
San Marcos dominated the Dragons 25-7 in the first set before taking the second set 25-13.
In the last game of the day, San Marcos battled the Humble Kingwood Park Panthers.
The Panthers took the first set in a tough first set win 25-23. The Rattlers bounced back to take the second set 25-18 to force a final third set.
However, unlike their result against Celina, the Rattlers bounced back and defeated the Panthers 25-14 to win both the third set and the match.
San Marcos, with a 3-1 record in pool play, advanced to the winner’s bracket and into Pool E along with the Austin Regents Knights and the Austin Bowie Bulldogs.
The Rattlers faced off with Regents 9 a.m. on Saturday before playing Austin Bowie at 10 a.m.
Before Saturday’s game, San Marcos will play the Odessa Bronchos in a non-tournament action.
All games will be completed before the San Marcos Daily time of press..
