WIMBERLEY FOOTBALL

Wimberley quarterback Cody Stoever was named Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine’s Preseason Offensive Player of the Year for Class 4A.

Stoever is the first ever Wimberley player to win the award offensively or defensively. The now-senior quarterback was also named to the DCTF Preseason All State team.

Stoever and the Texans finished the 2023 season with a 14-1 record where Wimberley fell in the State Semifinals.

Stoever helped lead a potent offensive attack that averaged 50.1 points per game over 15 games. Stoever passed for 2,992 yards and 41 touchdowns while rushing for 1,585 yards and 32 touchdowns.

Wimberley was placed in District 13 in Class 4A Division II along with the Gonzales Apaches, Jarrell Cougars, Lago Vista Vikings, Salado Eagles, Smithville Tigers and the long-time Navarro Panthers.

Wimberley returns five starters on offense and four starters on defense from last year’s team that looks to win their fourth straight district title.

The Texans are predicted to win the district over Lago Vista, Navarro and Gonzales.

The Texans are also expected to win the 4A Region IV title with DCTF predicting Wimberley to beat Sinton for their third straight regional title. The Cuero Gobblers are expected to contend to the regional title after moving from Region III to Region IV.

Wimberley starts the season Friday, Aug. 30 at home against Canyon Lake.
