DCTF predicts Rattlers to finish in last place

DCTF predicts Rattlers to finish in last place

SMHS FOOTBALL

With the release of the 2024 Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine comes one of the most anticipated readings, how each Texas high school football team will finish in their own district.

San Marcos moved into District 29 along with the Cibolo Steele Knights, the Converse Judson Rockets, the San Antonio East Central Hornets and the Schertz Clemens Buffaloes during the 2024 UIL Realignment cycle.

Joining District 29 are the Buda Johnson Jaguars and the New Braunfels Canyon Cougars.

DCTF predicts San Marcos will finish in last place in the new District 29 standings behind East Central and New Braunfels Canyon.

Qualifying for the playoffs, should the projections hold, would be Cibolo Steele, Converse Judson, Buda Johnson and Schertz Clemens with the Knights and the Jaguars moving into the Division I bracket while the Rockets and the Buffaloes will play in the Division II bracket.

Preseason Offensive MVP went to Steele wide receiver Jalen Cooper while Preseason Defensive MVP went to Judson linebacker Jordan Dukes.

San Marcos will return four offensive starters and three defensive starters from last year’s team who went 0-10 and enters the new season on a 11-game losing streak.

Donovan Garcia is noted to be a potential breakout star by DCTF having rushed for 856 yards last season. The Rattlers also return Martin Ruiz, Kenneth Pease and Shavien Sanderson who look to bolster the offensive line.

The Rattlers will look to prove their doubters wrong this season when they start the 2024 season on the road against Hutto Friday Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
