Colton’s Corner: Wrapping up another season in sports

OP-ED

We finally made it through another year of sports here in San Marcos.

In my two years – may be 1.75 – since I took over in the middle of football season, of being the sports editor of the San Marcos Daily Record, one thing I have learned is that sports will keep you on your toes no matter who is playing.

Starting in the fall, football season was another exciting time here in a state where the sport is considered almost a religion. Unfortunately, not everyone was able to enjoy the riches of the sport.

The Rattlers had a rough season last year going 0-10. As someone who has been on a high school football team that failed to win a game, it is not the best feeling in the world. The one thing I can say about the Rattlers was that they never quit despite the circumstances, which is all you can ask for. After watching some of their spring practices, next year is looking like a bounce back year.

Both San Marcos Academy and San Marcos Hill Country Christian experienced success in the six-man ranks of TAPPS. The Bears qualified for the playoffs while the Rams won their first district championship since 2015.

If you want more excitement between the two teams, both Academy and Hill Country will meet for the first time on the gridiron Friday, September 13.

Then of course there are the Texas State Bobcats.

What else you can say about the 2023 season that hasn’t already been said.

The Bobcats, under first year head coach G.J.
