First Tuesday SMTX to present ‘Friday I’m in Love’ May 7 at The Price Center

This Tuesday, it’s “Friday I’m in Love!”

On May 7, First Tuesday SMTX will present a documentary film about Numbers Nightclub, a gay disco in the heart of Houston. “Friday I’m in Love” is a love letter to Numbers as it progressed from an LGBTQ enclave into the 80s as the premiere cutting-edge music venue and dance club of Houston. Over time, Numbers became a home for punk rockers, goths, new wavers, members of the LGBTQ community and a multitude of overlapping subcultures who emerged during that time. “Friday I’m in Love” chronicles the nightclub's long history, including stories with iconic musicians who performed there — from Ministry, Grace Jones, The Cure, Nine Inch Nails and Björk. The documentary celebrates those who sparked and sustained the club’s musical history as well as its legacy of acceptance.

Director Marcus Pontello will be at the screening in person, and will conduct a post-film Q&A with Dr. Louie Dean Valencia, Department of History at Texas State University.

Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. Pizza from Pie Society and beer from Middleton Brewery will be served starting at 6:30 p.m. The screening will begin at 7 p.m. and will take place at The Price Center. Tickets are $5 and available online at firsttuesdaysmtx.com.

The First Tuesday SMTX Film Series aims to bring top independent films to the big screen in San Marcos on the first Tuesday of every month. These screenings are free and open to the public. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door or in advance at firsttuesdaysmtx. com.

“Friday I’m in Love” was an official selection at the Nashville and New Orleans Film Festivals.
