Zumba Gold

When: Classes are from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays Where: The Price Center at 222 San Antonio St.

Details: Classes are free if you are a current Price Center member. Most new participants do become members to support the events and activities that happen at the Price Center. An annual Price Center membership is $35. Otherwise the cost $2 per student.

Calling All Instrumentalists

Rehearsals reconvene for the Aquarena Springs Symphonic Band. The group will be reading new charts in preparation for spring and summer performances.

The community band is welcoming experienced wind and percussion players with high school experience and beyond.

No audition required, only a desire to play music.

Life Long Learning: Register Now!

San Marcos Parks and Recreation in cooperation with Life Long Learning of San Marcos is once again offering new Life Long Learning courses for the greater San Marcos area. The classes are primarily for those age 60 and above, but adults of any age are welcome to register. A minimum number of registrants is required for these classes to make.

60+ Game Day

When: Meets every Monday except City Holidays, from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Where: San Marcos Activity Center What: Join us for Game Day Game materials for Bridge, Mexican Train Dominoes, Hand & Foot and 42 are provided. We will add new games at your request! New members are welcome. Registration for Game Day is no longer required. Make sure you arrive on time to get in on a game!

Cover Letters Made Easy

When: Mondays, 9 - 10 a.m.

Who: Market yourself and gain an edge in today's job market by learning how to write an effective cover letter. We will discuss components of a cover letter, review proper formatting, determine what to include and what to leave out.

Tax Aide

Wild Wednesdays

Where: San Marcos Discovery Center, 430 Riverside What: Wild Wednesdays will take place every Wednesday with a different wildlife theme each month. This free, kid-focused program includes education through natural history items, a selfguided activity, thematic color sheet, craft and more. No registration is required for this come-and-go program.

Zentangle

When: Monday, April 1, 10 to 11 a.m.

Where: San Marcos Public Library Who: Come make Zentangles with others. A Zentangle is a miniature abstract work of art created by a collection of patterns. It is typically done on a 3.5' X 3.5' paper 'tile' using a pencil and a black pen. The small size allows for a work of art that can be completed in a relatively short period of time. Express Yourself! Self-Discovery through Expressive Arts

Where: San Marcos Public Library Who: Put on a lens of discovery and use art-making, writing, play, sound, and movement to explore and express who you are! Participants love Express Yourself for the community and playfulness, and leave feeling inspired, free, and more at ease within themselves. Silver Singers Group Sing-Along and Karaoke When: Wednesday, April 3, 1 p.m.

What: Calling all music lovers ages 60 and above!

You’re invited to join the karaoke crew for a harmonious blast or belt out a solo showstopper!

We are changing up our karaoke program to include group sing-along songs as well as solo performances!

So, if you suffer from stage fright and are not ready to grab the mic, that’s okay, you’re welcome to join us anyway and participate in some group sing-alongs.

Squashing Stress

When: Wednesday, April 3, 10, 17 & 24; 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Where: San Marcos Public Library Who: Learn the appeal and versatility of DAS, Air Dry paper-based clay—to knead, roll, shape and form objects while enjoying the stress reduction provided by the soothing, tactile nature of the material. Once dry, pieces are painted and glazed and used to make jewelry, trinket trays, ornaments, small sculptures and whatever else we can imagine. Classes begin with a gentle stretch to get us all in the right frame of mind and promote a spirit of camaraderie and trust in a safe, non-judgmental space where process takes precedence over product. All materials provided.

When the River Speaks: A San Marcos Community Poetry and Art Publication Publication Party When: Saturday, April 6, 6:30 p.m.

Who: Everyone has words. Some of us aren’t even aware of the words we have yet. Together, we can celebrate creativity and resilience through the communal flow of words in this community publication, When the River Speaks. Our mission is to highlight talent in our community and celebrate the diversity of our voices. We encourage writers of all experience levels and backgrounds to submit poems, sketches, and any other artwork. Poems in languages other than English are also welcome. We want to hear from you! Submit work at [email protected] or @whentheriverspeaks on Facebook or Instagram. Pick up a free copy of the publication at the San Marcos Public Library and participating local venues.
