Rattlers get their first win of the season at Brenham Classic

San Marcos captured their first win over the weekend as the Rattlers defeated the Splendora Wildcats 12-1 in the opening game of the Brenham Classic.

Adelaida Sierra set the tone for the Rattlers, as the sophomore pitcher struck out the first three batters in the top of the first inning.

The Rattlers capitalized on the solid pitching and defensive play by putting runners on second and first with no outs.

Ava Serna hit a hard grounder towards the pitcher, but a throwing error by the Wildcats allowed base runners Arianna Flores and Selena Silva to score as San Marcos went up 2-0.

Jessica DeLeon scored another run for San Marcos by hitting a deep fly ball into center field to allow Serna to score.

Despite Splendora converting the double play to get out of the inning, the Rattlers were out in front 3-0.

Following a Wildcats single into right field, Sierra rebounded by striking out the next batter before the Rattler defense converted two ground outs to get out of the inning and keep Splendora off the score board.

Bryce Pinales kicked off the inning with a single into left field before moving to second on the sacrifice bunt by Sierra to put a runner in scoring position.

After Jocelyn Garcia reached first base following the error to put runners on the corners with no outs, Pinales scored a failed pickoff attempt missed the third baseman allowed Garcia to move third base.

Garcia then scored on another Wildcat error allowing Flores to move to second.

San Marcos was on base once again Silva reached first on another error to put runners on second and first.

Following a fly out into center field, DeLeon forced a walk to load the bases for the Rattlers with two outs. Jaelynn Perez forced a bases loaded walk to make it a 6-0 game before the Wildcats got out of the inning with a forced out.

Splendora got a run back in the top of the third inning, but San Marcos was ready to add more in the bottom of the third.

A double by Pinales and a walk by Sierra put runners on second and first before Garcia hit a tworun RBI single to score both runners and extend the lead at 8-1.

A sacrifice bunt attempt by Flores led to another Rattler run as another Wildcat error scored Garcia to make a 9-1 game.

San Marcos tacked on three more runs to win via the Mercy Rule over Splendora 12-1.

The Rattlers dropped their next four games against Danbury, Brennan, Halletsville and Wylie before closing out the Brenham Classic against the Caney Creek Panthers. San Marcos found themselves in trouble early with runners on second and first with two outs.

Caney Creek scored the first run of the on a RBI single into left field as the Panthers went up 1-0.

Despite the Panthers loading the bases, pitcher Rae Ybarra ended the inning on a strikeout to keep the damage at a minimum.

The Rattlers backed up Ybarra by putting on three runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead at 3-1.

In the bottom of the third inning, San Marcos found themselves holding a 4-3 lead with runners on third and second with two outs.

Garcia broke the game open for the Rattlers connecting on a bases clearing RBI triple to put San Marcos ahead 6-3 en route to the Rattlers 9-4 win.
