Court confirms Precinct-1 Deputy Constable, Reserve Deputy Constable

Hays County Commissioners Court recently approved and confirmed the appointment of Able Garza as a Deputy Constable and Victor Byrd as Reserve Deputy Constable in the Hays County Constable Pct-1 Office at the last regularly scheduled meeting.

“As you well know, law enforcement is so important to our county,” Hays County Constable Pct-1 David Peterson said. “If we have an opening, we certainly want to fill it.”

Peterson boasted about the newly confirmed Deputy and Reserve Deputy and the experience that they would be bringing into the roles.

“We have two great law enforcement officers today,” Peterson said. “It’s very important to have them in front of you to see that they are mentors and leaders of this county that not only do their job but go beyond it.”

He started with Garza who is a San Marcos native and started his law enforcement career with the city of Luling Police Department. He retired from the Austin Police Department with 12 years of service and has a total of 24 years of law enforcement experience.

“His certifications are Master Peace Officer, Police Motorcycle [and] Metro Response,” Peterson said. “If you would accept him into Precinct 1 … for the service that he has done and wants to continue doing.”

Victor Byrd is from Amarillo Texas but lives in San Marcos. He began his career in law enforcement with the Forney Police Department in 1997 and has 26 years of law enforcement experience. He is a U.S. Army veteran with 27 years of service.

“His training is extensive: mounted patrol, crime scene investigator, mental health [officer]. Superior Unit Awards, Iraq medals, [and] army achievements, “ Peterson said. “We’d like to Welcome Victor Byrd also into Hays County.”
