Bobcats sign 11 new players to 2024 class

Texas State signed 11 new players to their 2024 class during National Signing Day for non-football sports.

With the Bobcats replacing 18 seniors on the 2023 team, the new additions to the team will help Texas State compete for another Sun Belt Conference Championship for Head Coach Steven Trout.

“I’m extremely excited about the 2024 class and really think we have some special talent in this group,” Trout said. “With 18 seniors to replace, these guys will be valuable in stepping in right away and competing for a job in their first year. I think we have really good athletes that are also really good baseball players in this group. I can’t thank Josh Blakley enough for leading the charge on this class along side of Chad Massengale and Jerry Cervantez. The future is bright in San Marcos!”

One of the most notable signees of the 2024 class in the signing of San Marcos High School’s Kutter Gage Webb.

Webb is now the fourth San Marcos High School athlete to sign with Texas State joining his older brother Kannon Webb, a wide receiver for the Bobcat football team, Maggie Walsh, outside hitter of the Bobcat volleyball team and Kaden Gumbs, point guard for the Bobcat basketball team.

Last year, Webb helped lead the Rattlers to both a district championship and bi-district championship in baseball before San Marcos fell in the area round to Lake Travis in the three game series.

Webb was named District MVP with a batting average of .390 along with 18 stolen bases.

Webb was also named second team all state by the TXHS Coaches Association.

Assistant coach Josh Blakely noted that Webb is very well known around the Texas State baseball program and hopes his offensive prowess will help the Bobcats in the future.

“Kutter is our local legend,” Blakely said. “He has been around our ballpark since he was a little kid and has never stopped impressing the coaching staff. Kutter can flat hit! A coach’s son, he truly understands the game and has some intangible qualities to him, but don’t underestimate his ability to get the barrel to the baseball. Kutter will hit in the middle of the Bobcats’ lineup in the very near future.”

In addition to Webb, the Bobcats also signed seven high school players to this year’s class in Caden Baker (Houston Stratford), Brock DeYoung (Katy Cinco Ranch), Austin Dolezal (Conroe Grand Oaks), Zach Gingrich (Smithson Valley), Josh Glaser (Flower Mound), Braylon Mitchell (Cypress Creek) and Dawson Park (Magnolia West).

Texas State also signed three junior college players in Coy DeFury (Blinn College), Trent Rucker (Temple College) and Cole Tabor (Temple College).
