District is giving few details on ‘altercation’ at SMHS

The San Marcos CISD is keeping tight-lipped about an incident at San Marcos High School Wednesday.

“An altercation took place during lunch this afternoon,” district spokesman Andrew Fernandez said in an email in response to a Daily Record inquiry.

“Students involved are being disciplined accordingly and will also be disciplined to the fullest extent allowed by law,” he said. “The safety of our students and staff is paramount.”

Fernandez did not respond by press time to a follow-up query concerning how many students were involved, whether San Marcos Police were called to the scene (a School Resource Officer is assigned to the campus), and if police were called, whether any students were detained.

Police have responded to the campus three times so far this week. On Monday, officers were summoned at 10:32 a.m. for a “mental health follow up.” No report was taken. At 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, an 18-year-old man was arrested at the high school on a charge of assault.

On Tuesday afternoon, there was a report of a suspicious vehicle on the high school campus.
