Texas State head baseball coach set to speak to Rotary Club

Texas State head baseball coach set to speak to Rotary Club

Texas State head baseball coach Steven Trout will speak to the Rotary Club of San Marcos at its upcoming meeting.

Trout will share his thoughts on the Bobcats’ upcoming season at Rotary’s meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 1. Texas State’s season will begin on Feb. 17 with a three-game series at Bobcat Ballpark against Northwestern.

The Texas State baseball team is coming off a historic season. In 2022, the Bobcats set program records for wins (47), conference wins (26), home runs (87), strikeouts (541), set an NCAA record with a 24-game improvement from the 2021 season and ended the year ranked for the last 13 weeks of the year. The team earned its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance, its first as an at-large selection and went on to advance to the finals of the Stanford Regional.

Trout says the 2023 season will see the pitching staff as a strength as the team brings back two All-Sun Belt Conference First Team honorees, Levi Wells and Zeke Wood, along with all but four pitchers that threw an inning in 2022.

Trout is heading into his fourth season leading the Texas State baseball program. In that time, he has compiled an 82-54 record and led the Bobcats to the 2022 Sun Belt regular season title, the program’s second in the last three full seasons.  Overall, he is in his 10th season with the Bobcats after serving previously as associate head coach (2018-19), assistant coach (2016-17) and volunteer assistant (2009-10)

Before joining the coaching staff at Texas State, Trout served as assistant coach at West Virginia University and head coach at Texarkana College. He is a native of Hooks, Texas and earned a bachelor’s degree in general studies from Texas Christian University.

Rotary meets at noon on Wednesdays at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, 105 Bintu Drive, San Marcos. Visitors are always welcome. Rotary is a nonprofit, nonpolitical and nonreligious service organization. The San Marcos club is more than 100 years old.
