Texas State drops weekend matches

Texas State lost its two weekend matches against Georgia State and Georgia Southern. 

The Bobcats began their Georgia trip with a 4-2 loss to Georgia State on Saturday at the Clarkston Tennis Courts in Clarkston, Ga. 

Texas State claimed the doubles point when seniors Ana Perez and Julia Navajo-Melendez beat Daniela Ramirez and Eva Chivu, 6-4. The Bobcats received the doubles point when Georgia State was forced to forfeit a match.

Texas State took a 2-0 lead when sophomore Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez won a singles match by forfeit. 

But Georgia State rallied to win four matches to earn the 4-2 victory. 

Perez lost 6-1, 6-2 against Chivu. Navajo-Melendez fell to Damira Muminovic, 6-4. 6-1. Sophomore Andrea Fuchs lost to Anastasia Grosheva, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. 

The Panthers secured the match when Texas State sophomore Rishona Israel-Lewis lost to Daniela Ramirez, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. 

Bobcats drop Sunday matches against Eagles 

Texas State fell to Georgia Southern, 4-1, on Sunday inside the Wallis Tennis Center in Statesboro, Ga. 

The Bobcats took a quick 1-0 lead when they earned the doubles points. Senior Joy Chia Ming Ming and Isreal-Lewis defeated Lindsay Truscott and Luisa Hrda, 6-4. Murcia-Rodriguez and Fuchs beat Paula Boixader and Charlotte Van Deme, 6-4. 

Georgia Southern evened the match at 1-1 when Fuchs lost to Hrda, 6-2, 6-1. Chia Ming Ming fell to Mila Hartig, 6-0, 6-2. The Eagles’ Elizabeth Goines defeated Texas State’s Murcia Rodriguez, 6-2, 6-4. 

Georgia Southern won the match when Bujan beat Israel-Lews, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. 

 Texas State returns to San Marcos to take on Arkansas State on Saturday at 10 a.m. inside Bobcat Tennis Complex.
