KZSM — Upcoming Spring events

Springtime seems to abound with fresh energy, it infects everything from the flora and fauna to our own levels of activity. Your true community radio station family is no different.

Springtime seems to abound with fresh energy, it infects everything from the flora and fauna to our own levels of activity. Your true community radio station family is no different. Our volunteer staff has been planning and working diligently with fresh ideas to renew our commitment to be an integral part of this unique community.

To kick off our new season of events, join us for Wine Tasting and Tapas on the River on April 4. Enjoy the sounds of Johnny Dioxide as he serenades us into the sunset. Advanced tickets can be bought online at KZSM.org through PayPal or may also be purchased at the door. If purchased in advance, please print your receipt to show at the door.

In May, our team of championship spellers will compete with other teams from our community as the San Marcos Public Library hosts its annual Spelling Bee. The event is being held from 7 until 10 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 at Aquabrew. There is still time to register your own three-person team. Sign up or just come and watch to see who rises to the top of this grueling competition.

Of course, our own inimitable Metal Mark, the God-son of heavy metal, will host another Metal Fest at Jack’s Roadhouse on June 7 and 8. There is no cover charge, however, Jack’s will be donating a portion of their food and drink sales during the fest to your KZSM Community Radio station. So, come on out to eat, drink, and bang your head with us. We’ll see you in the mosh pit!

The Third Thursday Walkabouts have resumed and your true community radio station continues to bring you the music. Last week we enjoyed some Celtic music with O’ Malarkey and a return to the Kissing Alley by Brother Roscoe. For the month of April, we are looking forward to music from a couple of local Jazz performers. The weather was perfect for an outdoor concert last week and we’ll keep our fingers crossed for similar weather for our next Kissing Alley concert as well.

Our monthly volunteer staff meeting will be held on Wednesday, the 27th at Wake the Dead Coffee House. Come and meet your community radio family. Bring your ideas and suggestions on how we can better serve our community. Don’t forget, if you ever had a thought about becoming a radio host, we can make that happen!
