During December, Maurice T. Suttles VFW and Auxiliary started a Coat Drive, right in time to help the community during the freezing weather.

“Little did we know at the time what kind of weather we would be in for,” said Bernadette Adams, VFW president and historian. “A week of below freezing power outages and emotional turmoil.”

VFW Commander Stephanie Brown helped collect coats of all sizes and were able to distribute some blankets as well.

“We decided we would give the coats to Southside Community Center since they could reach more people in need,” Brown said. “We will do this again next year as just one of our projects to help those that are in need.”
