KZSM — Undaunted by inclement weather

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night will stop your community radio station from delivering you news, information, music and general entertainment! The Kissing Alley concert series

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night will stop your community radio station from delivering you news, information, music and general entertainment! The Kissing Alley concert series is an example of this. Despite brisk temperatures that chilled faces and stiffened fingers of musicians last week, the San Marcos High School Jazz and Salsa bands performed in a manner one would expect from older, more seasoned artists. With audience and staff members bundled against the cold, both remarkable groups of students delivered musical renditions to make every parent and attendee proud to claim them as San Marcos’ own! The dedication to their craft and development of their talent and abilities as well as the guidance of dedicated instructors resulted in a magnificent evening of entertainment! Did I mention that this performance was delivered in an alley? Outdoors? As astonishing as this may seem, and if one hasn’t been to one of these concerts, once you attend you discover that the acoustics are quite amazing! The only weather event that would force us to move this event indoors is rain.

We are always honored to share musical talent. There are a few programs on our program schedule that often present live musicians in the studio. On Sunday afternoons, Rob Roark hosts Revolving Door. It is generally described as San Marcos’ front porch where one never knows who will show up to jam a few melodies and talk about music, musicians, and who’s gigging where next. Friday Night with Care hosts live performers from local talents to bands who happen to be passing through. Of course, Metal Mark, the God-son of Heavy Metal, has metal maniacs performing or co-hosting with him on Thursday nights, just to name a few.

Have you ever given thought to becoming a DJ? If you have (and even if you haven’t) we can make that happen for you! Join us for our next volunteer staff meeting on Wednesday, Feb, 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Wake the Dead Coffee House. Come and meet your true community radio staff, bring your ideas and suggestions and become part of the family! If hosting a radio program is not exactly what you had in mind but wish support for community radio, there are plenty of other volunteer and internship opportunities available as well. This is YOUR community radio station and all are welcome!

KZSM (just a little bit south of weird!) now streaming world-wide on the internet at KZSM.org.
