The Show Will Go On

This year, theater enthusiasts have had the chance to adapt to viewing online performances of their favorite shows, and while that has been an interesting experience, many have longed for the return of in-person performances.

As 2020 winds to a close, Texas Performing Arts hopes to give theater-goers something to look forward to in the New Year.

While TPA continues to prioritize the health and well-being of cast, crew, staff and audiences during the coronavirus pandemic, Broadway in Austin has revised its season schedule in response to the ongoing national disruption in touring performing arts.

The long-anticipated touring debut of Hadestown has been scheduled for June 1-6, 2021. Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been rescheduled for July 20-25, 2021. Summer: The Donna Summer Musical will take place from September 7-12, 2021.

Wicked, which is the season ticket holders’ option, has been rescheduled for April 21-May 9, 2021.

The Texas Performing Arts schedule for Tootsie, To Kill A Mockingbird and Mean Girls have all been postponed for a later date. Subscription ticket holders for the Broadway in Austin 2020-2021 season will keep the same seats for those performances once they are rescheduled. While there may be additional scheduling changes in the season, subscribers can be assured that if any performances are canceled, they will have the option to receive a credit, refund, or the ability to donate the value of their tickets. Single ticket on-sale dates for individual shows will be announced at a later time.

Texas Performing Arts is currently presenting online and socially-distanced outdoor events and hosting rehearsals on its stages while preparing to re-open its theaters to audiences when appropriate. A full range of health measures are being actively developed in partnership with University of Texas medical professionals and in accordance with state guidelines.
