WillThrive Foundation to host virtual forum to help anxiety, depression in teens

The WillThrive Foundation will host its first community event on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. With the onset of the global pandemic, anxiety in teens is on the rise. Local healthcare professionals, district representatives, and parents present their perspectives in this informative 90-minute virtual discussion.

The WillThrive Foundation will host its first community event on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. With the onset of the global pandemic, anxiety in teens is on the rise. Local healthcare professionals, district representatives, and parents present their perspectives in this informative 90-minute virtual discussion.

“I’m Not OK” will focus on three key discussion topics. First, the event will discuss the problem of anxiety in teens (ages 7-17) today. The second topic will cover warning signs and behaviors. Finally, the last topic will discuss options for mental health care here in San Marcos and surrounding areas. All of these topic areas will be presented from the perspective of parents, healthcare profesionals, and our public school district. All panelists are from San Marcos and surrounding areas.

Panelists for the first event will be:

• Laura Johnson (LPC, RPT, Vida Clinic)

• Marlene Moriarity (Ph.D., LPC-S, Texas Lutheran University)

• April Chatmon-Mustafa (Director, Social Emotional Learning and Guidance, San Marcos CISD)

• Toniya Parker (Program Expansion Coordinator, National Alliance on Mental Illness - NAMI Central Texas)

• Jennifer Vogel (Program Coordinator School-Age Parenting Program and Child Development Center, Co-Chair of the School Health Advisory Committee – SHAC)

• Dana Washington (Community Action, Inc. of Central Texas)
